A party of "princesses" pose in a West Oaks apple orchard with Miss Apple Blossom 2022.

The morning of Saturday, April 23, 2022 arrived with every positive vibe spring has to offer at the lovely West Oaks Farm in Winchester, Virginia. The sun was shining, the temperature was favorable and most of all, pleasant people gathered together for a new Apple Blossom Festival event; Breakfast with Miss Apple Blossom, Savannah Marcum.

The concept of the event was to allow all lovely young ladies, of any age, to come and enjoy this social time, and be princesses too, alongside Miss Apple Blossom. Dressed in their best princess gear, attendees arrived by 9:00 AM. Guests received a crown of their own and a small party favor as they came in the door of the venue. All mini royals were then able to meet and greet Miss Apple Blossom personally, as well as grab a quick photo op prior to taking their seats.

The festivities then began with a welcome being extended to all followed by guests being invited to help themselves to the buffet style breakfast. A bounty of sweet confections and fruit was made available for all to enjoy, as well as coffee, sweet tea, apple juice or water to drink. With all food items being prepared right at West Oaks Farm by their wonderful chefs, no wonder everything was absolutely delicious!

A favorite yummy food at the breakfast, the sticky buns with apple filling, made with apples grown right at West Oaks Farm.

Guests had ample time to enjoy their breakfast, as well as mix and mingle throughout this tasty event. A few words were said regarding Miss Apple Blossom and she also had an opportunity to share her platform with the audience. Guests were also introduced to sponsor of the function, Blossom Medical, and a valuable door prize was given away mid way through the proceedings.

A favorite of the children was the casual and relaxed flow of the event that allowed for physical movement, something children truly need. Attendees were able to ebb and flow in and out of the building to enjoy the lovely weather in the sitting area on the patio or to snag some endearing photos in the nearby apple orchard with blossoms in beautiful bloom.

The event culminated in an invitation for attendees to meet in the orchard for a final group photo with Miss Apple Blossom, Savannah Marcum. At that time, the audience was also greeted by Mrs. Snapp, one of the owners of West Oaks Farm who gave a little information about the farm itself. Mrs. Snapp shared that the farm has been there since 1755 and that they were the 10th generation of farmers at West Oaks. She shared that they raise beef on the farm, as well as row crops, and that they also have 14 varieties of apples being grown there currently.

All in all, it was a delightful event, with an enjoyable atmosphere and tasty food. As guests departed they were invited to take the lovely, floral centerpieces home, as well as continue to enjoy all the rest of what the farm has to offer. It was a fantastic morning for children and adults alike and I highly recommend this event for future Apple Blossom celebrations!

Family time in the orchard is especially enjoyed at the event on this gorgeous, spring day.

Compliments:

  • The fantastic, homemade confections were wonderful.

  • It was great they showed an understanding of a child's need to move and allowed for indoor/outdoor ebb and flow.

  • Miss Apple Blossom, Savannah Marcum, was approachable, gracious and absolutely great with the children.

Considerations:

  • Children attending should bring clothes to change into for time at the playground once the breakfast ends.

  • Kids love to see other kids. It would have been nice to have some brief entertainment in the program, such as a small children's choir to share a few spring themed songs, etc. (Kingdom Academy students volunteer for this job next year!)
